February 2020 Update
Legislative Update: The Minnesota State Legislature gaveled into session
this past Tuesday, February 11 and is expected to meet until mid-May. How
will the session impact our profession? Time will tell as we work diligently to
track bills that are most important to planners and those that align with our
policy platform. We will also be partnering with organizations and agencies
that are working towards legislation that promotes good planning and our shared
policy platform goals. As part of this effort, we are pleased to partner with
the Minnesota Transportation Alliance. The
Minnesota Transportation Alliance is a statewide coalition of organizations
advocating for a safe and effective transportation system that works for all
Minnesotans.
If you would like APA MN to track and monitor any specific legislation of
interest, please email Leslie Rosedahl at leslie@rosedahlpublicaffairs.com.
We will make sure to include this as part of regular updates to membership
during the legislative session.
Law Update: The League of Minnesota Cities is urging city councils to adopt a resolution providing clarity after the Minnesota Supreme Court’s decision in Harstad v. City of Woodbury, where the court found there was no existing statutory authority to collect fees for future infrastructure improvements when approving residential development.
