The City of Willmar is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented professional to join its Planning and Development Services Department as a City Planner. This position plays an important role in guiding the City's growth and development through land use planning, zoning administration, and support of economic development initiatives.

The City Planner is responsible for a variety of planning and zoning activities, including reviewing development proposals, administering zoning and subdivision regulations, preparing staff reports, and leading zoning enforcement efforts. This position also contributes to comprehensive planning and special projects, assists with the development of policies and procedures, and supports economic development research and planning.

Working closely with City staff, developers, contractors, design professionals, community organizations, boards, and commissions, the City Planner helps ensure that development activities align with City policies, regulations, and long-term community goals. The position regularly attends and participates in Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals meetings and provides information, presentations, maps, and recommendations to the City Council, boards, commissions, community groups, and the public.

The ideal candidate is an effective communicator with strong analytical and organizational skills, an understanding of land use planning and zoning principles, and the ability to manage projects and work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders. Knowledge of GIS, planning and development regulations, and economic development practices is highly desirable.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Urban or Regional Planning and at least one year of experience in land use planning and zoning.
