Hometown Planning is a small private company providing contract zoning administration and land use planning services to cities, townships and counties in Minnesota. Position is well-suited for remote/work from home and flexible work hours. Attendance at several evening meetings per month is regularly required. 20-40 hours/week depending on applicant desire and employer need. Current client communities are located in Central, West Central and North Central MN including in and around St. Cloud, the Alexandria/Glenwood lakes area, the Dassel/Cokato area, the Park Rapids lakes area and others.

Responsibilities include serving as a contract Zoning Administrator to Minnesota cities, townships and/or counties that are clients of the company. This position will be expected to take a lead role with several client communities as quickly as possible. Regular duties as a Zoning Administrator include reviewing permit applications for compliance with local zoning regulations; preparing staff reports, public notices and other documents related to public hearings; researching and responding to public inquiries; coordinating and performing ordinance enforcement; conducting site inspections and other duties as assigned. Work also includes, depending on client needs, assisting in the development of comprehensive plans and land use ordinances.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, skilled at simplifying complex concepts through verbal and written communications, effective in balancing accuracy and efficiency in their time management, comfortable with working through conflict in a professional manner, able to navigate multiple and layered sets of regulations, and willing to adapt as necessary to meet the unique needs of each client community. Experience with regulatory enforcement, customer service, writing technical documents and/or a working knowledge of construction or landscaping practices is beneficial, but not required.
