The Planning Policy & Action Specialist, as part of a new team focused on coordinating long-range planning across state government, will coordinate the implementation strategy of long-range plans, ensuring that the plans are highly actionable and tied into channels to drive short-term decisions. Issue areas could include, but are not limited to, climate resiliency, rural economic development, economic mobility, workforce development, housing, and artificial intelligence.

The Planning Policy & Action Specialist, reporting up to the Planning Policy & Action Manager, is responsible for coordinating implementation strategy on multiple inter-agency long-range planning efforts at a time. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead efforts to make long-range plans actionable, advising multiple inter-agency workgroups doing planning work across a wide variety of policy issues.
  • Identify the nature and quantity of recommendations associated with each long-term plan and the mechanisms for their implementation.
  • Provide expertise on choosing effective indicators, metrics, and targets to drive progress and measure results for each long-range planning initiative.
  • Lead the identification and analysis of data from state agencies or academic institutions that’s needed to generate and implement recommendations of long-range plans.
  • Coordinate with other groups and partners to operationalize the actions and recommendations coming out of long-range planning initiatives. Integrate with other efforts to drive progress on key issue areas, including but not limited to the One Minnesota framework.
