Job Description
The position leads, organizes and completes city sustainability initiatives; serves as the primary city contact and coordinator for sustainability related efforts including staff liaison to the sustainability commission; prepares, coordinates and submits necessary documentation related to sustainability programs for various groups and agencies.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Leads, organizes and completes city sustainability initiatives, while monitoring the city’s progress towards goals (i.e. Green Step Cities, Energy Action Plan, Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, B3 Benchmarking, and other initiatives).
- Respond to public inquiries related to sustainability.
- Prepares, coordinates and submits necessary documentation related to sustainability programs for various groups and agencies.
- Researches, coordinates, prepares, writes and presents staff reports for the Sustainability Commission, while serving as the staff liaison.
- Collaborate with the Sustainability Commission to create the commission’s annual work plan and complete tasks outlined in the plan throughout the year.
- Effectively collaborates with other city departments to coordinate and advance city sustainability initiatives.
- Plan and coordinate city sponsored events (i.e. electric events, clothing swaps, solar energy and waste reduction presentations, etc.).
- Partner with Hennepin County, State Departments, local utilities and other organizations on initiatives that align with City of Minnetonka sustainability goals.
- Research and apply for sustainability grants and assistance.
- Complete sustainability work with a diversity, equity and inclusion consideration.
- Foster a strong relationship with Minnetonka community members, businesses, and organizations.
- Performs other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: (expected to have to enter job)
- Bachelor's degree in planning, sustainability, public administration, environmental studies, natural resources or related field and one year of responsible, relevant experience.
- Previous experience with sustainability related initiatives.
- The ability to communicate ideas, explanations, and recommendations clearly both orally and in writing.
- The ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
- A belief in and commitment to the organization's shared values.
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications: (desired but not expected to have to enter job)
- Knowledge and experience with GIS.
- Familiarity with energy use database implementation and management
- Master's degree in related field
