Parks Planner

The Parks Planner is responsible for leading the City’s implementation of the Parks & Trails Master Plan, overall community engagement, and grant writing efforts; serves as the staff liaison to the Parks & Trails Board and Volunteer Committee; works collaboratively with all departments, advisory commissions, and the public to develop effective working relationships. The Parks Planner will be instrumental in achieving the City’s strategic priorities to maintain and enhance community amenities and infrastructure and works under direct supervision of the Community Development Director and in close consultation with the Director of Public Works/City Engineer.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience building trusted relationships among stakeholders and community members
  • Experience in local government working with city councils, boards, and commissions
  • Bachelor's Degree in landscape architecture, planning, park and recreation management, public administration, urban studies, geography or related field and three years planning experience
  • Valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field and two years planning experience 
  • Member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA)
  • Expertise in innovative community engagement techniques 
  • Basic knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in order to make site maps for analysis and communication purposes
